As you are putting together your business website, you probably spend a great majority of your time generating traffic. After all, this is the goal of your SEO (search engine optimization) and advertising programs. However, traffic alone does not do much for your bottom line. You want the visitors to your site to do something—buy your product, click your link, visit your sponsors—something. More important than simply boosting traffic is actually capturing leads from that traffic. Learn how easy converting traffic is when you follow these top 10 tips.
- Offer something of value to your visitors – If your webpage just consists of SEO content and items for sale or affiliate links, those who visit are going to notice. Provide useful information or other valuable content to bring your visitors back and assure them you are an authority on the subject of your page.
- Create a call to action – This is a statement that makes your visitors decide to convert. Just providing a means for your visitors to buy a product or click a link is not enough, you need a strong statement to convince them to do so.
- Build a landing page – If you simply want information from your visitors, consider building a simple landing page that requires them to submit their email address or other information to see the rest of the site. This assures you are generating leads, rather than just attracting traffic.
- Focus your page – The more distractions on your page the more other things your visitors can do rather than turn into conversions. Videos, pictures and links to outside sources have their place, but each of these items is something else your visitor may be distracted by, and in turn fail to purchase your product or click your affiliate link.
- Use contrasting colors – Make your link or product really stand out to the customer who is simply scanning your page.
- Use action words – If possible produce your content in active, not passive voice and pepper it with statements such as click here, read more, learn about, etc.
- Be direct – Do not spend thousands of words tiptoeing around what you are selling or what you want your visitors to do. Spell it out directly and you will find capturing leads much easier.
- Give something away – Let your visitors have a sample of what you are selling for free to get them hooked. For instance, if you are selling an eBook, let them read the first chapter free.
- Do not ask for too much information – Savvy web browsers do not want to give you their phone number, address and other information. Keep the information you ask for to a minimum to avoid setting off red flags.
- Deliver what you promise – This is the best way to get important word of mouth referrals. Those referred to your page by a friend are more likely to become conversions than those who find your page through other means.
